Adding an FTP Account

If you'd like to give FTP access to a user without compromising your cPanel login credentials you can easily set up a custom FTP account.

Using cPanel you'll want to click the "FTP Accounts" icon.

cPanel add FTP Account

The FTP Accounts page has three main entries.

Log In will give the FTP user their own custom login name.
Password will set the password for the login name.
Directory sets the starting directory for the user. Keep the following tips in mind:

  • If you want to give full access to all of your site's files leave the Directory setting alone.
  • If you want to limit the user to a specific directory insert the existing directory name.
  • If you want to limit the new FTP user to their own directory insert a directory name and one will be created for them.

Please note that our hosting service makes use of the FTPES protocol on port 21 to securely transfer your files. Please check your FTP software documentation on how to use the FTPES (FTP Explicit Auth) protocol.
