Using an SPF Record

An SPF record is a type of Domain Name Service (DNS) record that identifies which mail servers are permitted to send email on behalf of your domain. The purpose of an SPF record is to prevent spammers from sending messages with forged 'from' addresses at your domain name, and to help your real mail get delivered like it should.

SPF file if you only use our mail server to send mail from your domain name (and nothing else sends email from your domain for you - shopping carts, email marketing, etc)
v=spf1 +a +mx +ip4:67.225.165.30 ~all

You can edit your SPF record by logging into cPanel and clicking on the Advanced Zone Editor tool.

How to edit your SPF record:
1. Login to cPanel
2. Click on Advanced Zone Editor
3. If you have more than one domain pointed here, choose a domain
4. Scroll down to your SPF record. It’ll be a TXT record

Parts of an SPF record:

Name:   your domain name followed by a period
TTL:  14400 seconds (this is the time-to-live - the time it will take for your changes to be live). you can change this to 3600 seconds minimum
Class:  IN
Type:  TXT  (SPF records must be text records)
TXT Data:   v=spf1 +a +mx +ip4:67.225.165.30 ~all -  this should include the IP of your sending server as well as any other senders that send in your name (shopping cart, etc)

If you use any special services to send email 'from' your domain eg. (from yourname@yourdomain.com), like an email marketing program (like Constant Contact) or a hosted shopping cart (like Mals-e), you should add them to your SPF record to make sure that mail sent by those services is not stopped as spam.

Some common email senders and their SPF settings:

Email marketing:

Contant Contact
- add include:spf.constantcontact.com
https://knowledgebase.constantcontact.com/articles/KnowledgeBase/5932-self-publishing-for-authentication?q=spf*

Shopping carts:

1. Invisible gold
- Make sure to have +a and include:spf1.invisiblegold.com.

2. Mals
include:mailgun.org
per Mal 9/14/17
